APPROACH & BACKGROUND
Joseph’s music reflects his upbringing and journey across the realms of Middle Eastern, jazz and flamenco music. Rather than attempt to force any of these worlds together, his music is inspired by the natural ways that people form unique mosaics of self through their experiences.
His musical skills have been honed by classes with Tony Moreno (USA), Nate Smith (USA), Israel Piraña Suarez (Spain), Bandolero (Spain) and Simon Barker (Australia), as well as at Monash University and New York University.
Noteworthy performances include alongside Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Cafe Berlin (Madrid, Spain), Arte Kanela Flamenco (national and international tours), Riley Lee (Shakuhachi Grand Master), Paco Lara (Spain) and Diego Guerrero (Latin Grammy Nominated).
Joseph has meticulously explored rhythmic texture and motion through a commitment to a diverse range of music, freelance recordings and the composition of original records Salt and At Hand. His passion for bringing music to life has fostered an ability to shape rhythm in a way that consistently transmits something meaningful to his audience.
